Glad to see this book (w/ railroad tracks on the cover) on the list b/c I got it at the library the other day for reading on the plane to NH.
WordPress
May 16, 2006WordPress does have a stealth mode like we found, post-level password protection, and plugins available for assigning privacy levels. I've tested these last 2 options (unsuccessfully, but I need to try again). I'm still finding livejournal easier to use, and definitely faster running, but it's probably worth giving the WordPress functions some more tries. I probably just need to spend half an hour or so with the instructions and I'd have more luck with the plugins and such. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that a request to pack our bags might be forthcoming!

May 14, 2006…I decided to make another post before retreating to my work completely.
Just thought you might like to know that the picture of you in the pueblo (from one of your albums on Facebook) is now my desktop background on my laptop. I really like that picture of you; you’re very cute in it. 
It must have been cold that day, since you were wearing a jacket, gloves, and a knit cap. Maybe that’s why I like it: you look really cozy in all your warm clothes. Of course, there’s that nice smile you’re wearing as well. Never could resist one of those.

The folks I live with: Linda and Doug Davies, along with Jake (behind Doug) and the rear end of Zoe (off to the left); photo taken soimetime last winter, probably December 2004.
Here’s some of the dogs and cats we live with; Sam is the eldest and biggest (and therefore the boss), Jake is just a little younger (but a lot smaller), and both of them are street mutts adopted when Doug and Linda lived in LA seven years ago; Zoe is the purebred golden retriever who’s going on four years old.
Well, that’s about all for now. It sounds like you and your mom have a nice Mother’s Day ahead of y’all. I already spoke to my mom this morning, and I’ll call my grandmother and probably a couple of my aunts a little later on today, once I know they’re home for the evening.
Back to work for me: I need to work more on my proposal presentation in addition to trying to port my written report from Word to LaTeX, the prefferred document software for scientific writing.
One more thing: I’ve been enjoying “All the Traditions” on Vermont Public Radio this afternoon, as I like to do when I’m inside or stuck at my desk on Sunday afternoons. It runs from 2-5 PM every Sunday and features a knowledgeable host whose well-steeped in local musical tradtions and happenings. You can give a listen sometime using the VPR webcast; just head over to their website and tune in. Today’s show has featured a live in-studio performance by folk singers from Quebec; all of the songs have been in French, but I’m still enjoying them.

May 14, 2006- Catherine was telling us last night that she and Mark had reached the end of a bike path yesterday, and reminisced about Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends. So this morning I’ve been flipping through A Light in the Attic–such a good book! I didn’t know he wrote the music and lyrics for Johnny Cash’s A Boy Named Sue. I’m thinking of making a bookmark or two with some of these super cool illustrations. I’ll make you one and mail it! So hard to decide between Fancy Dive, the Skin Stealer, or maybe Mr. Smeds and Mr. Smats…
